Petite Île is built upon a family legacy and Mauritian culinary tradition

Krishna

Hi there! I’m Krishna. I created Petite Île as a way to pay homage to my mother’s food and the island we all call home. To me, Mauritius is the most beautiful place on earth, ridged with tall peaks, rapids and dense forests. The whole island sits on crystal blue waters. It’s like nothing else you could imagine.

Growing up in Mauritius, life revolved around food, and my mum, whose grandchildren lovingly call Machetti, was Head Chef. She made simple, unpretentious food that was always delicious, full of rich flavors drawn out with time and love from a tiny kitchen and a two-burner tabletop stove.

Machetti

My mom had the magic touch, a gift for feeling her way through recipes and adding just the right amount of this and that to transform a dish from good to great. Only the best ingredients went into her food, as she put the highest premium on quality.

Her samoussas were in abundance at our house, ready to be fried up whenever anyone came for tea, or for when my siblings and I would come back from late lessons, looking for something to improve the day. In the ‘80s, she began selling her handmade samoussas to our neighborhood as well.

Petite Île is built upon that legacy and that family tradition.
